Drumroll, please…

I could not keep count of how many versions of this cover there were. Cover design is such a delicate form of art; a mere inch could make or break it and what you love to pieces one minute, you could detest an hour later. When it’s a cover of your own work, the stress increases.
But I loved every second of it.
I’ve always had a knack for graphic design; I love putting together puzzles to find the prettiest and most efficient end result.
I hopped from one idea to the next and also had to keep in mind that it’s the first in a series and the following covers needed a common thread. I knew I wanted simplicity and the vibes one gets from a literary fiction cover.
For the theme in the whole series, I strove for a simple piece that can somehow represent the main character or emanate a feeling that reminds readers of them.
I truly love this cover and I hope you do, too!

CHAPTER ONE
THE BOY ACROSS THE WAY
When my gaze falls to the mud lining the hem of my skirt, I know my life is over.
I suppose sisterly devotion is to blame; Beth’s forlorn expressions take hold of my heart every time. She loves these dear kittens, and I sacrifice my cleanliness to find them each time they run away. Wiggling my toes beneath waterlogged socks, I survey the unkempt garden and consider my predicament. Another glance at the soiled blue fabric of my clothes confirms I have nothing more to lose. With a sigh, I drop to my hands and knees.
